Advancing the security of Australia

Purpose

Support the enhancement of the Australian Army sniper capability.

Method

In pursuit of the Purpose, the ASA will:

  • Develop a Veteran Mentorship and Volunteer Engagement Program;

  • Provide funding and/or equipment for the comfort, recreation, or welfare of serving snipers of the Australian Army; and

  • Record and research the history of the Australian Army sniper.

End State

The Australian Army sniper capability has achieved, and has the capacity to maintain, world’s best practice.

Advancing social and public welfare

Purpose

Support the psychosocial needs of Australian Army veteran snipers.

Method

Coordinating events, activities, and opportunities that promote social connectedness and meaningful engagement, including:

  • Veteran Mentorship and Volunteer Engagement Program;

  • Civilian shooting range days;

  • Civilian shooting courses;

  • Obstacle course races;

  • Historical tours; and

  • Social gatherings.

End State

Veteran Australian Army snipers’ psychosocial wellbeing is advanced through  social connectedness and meaningful engagement. Our veteran mentorship and volunteer engagement programs support the Army’s sniper capability, and consequentially benefit the mental health of our veteran Australian Army snipers.

Advancing Education

Purpose

Support skill development through education and vocational training, empowering serving Australian Army snipers and strengthening the Army's sniper capability.

Method

  • Support skill development through the acquisition of equipment for Basic Sniper Courses;

  • Enabling success by providing and presenting awards for high performing students; and

  • Investing in excellence through the provision of funding for vocational training external to the ADF.

End State

Australian Army snipers have the knowledge and understanding of their trade that enables them to think in a disciplined manner, being skill that they can apply to a multitude of situations.

Meet Our Team

  • Greg Robertson

    Founder and Chair

    Greg is an Special Forces veteran and a highly experienced sniper with a passion for advancing sniper capabilities. He left Defence in January 2023 following a 25 year career, with 13 years service as a sniper within the 2nd Commando Regiment. Greg is known within Defence for innovative and creative training design, and implementing learning strategies that improve student outcomes. Greg is now a High School Social Science teacher, junior rugby coach, and the founder of the Army Sniper Association Australia.

  • Doug Sheridan

    Director

    Doug is a veteran of the Special Air Service Regiment. He served 33 years in the Australian Army and Special Forces in both full-time and reserve capacities. Doug was an Army and Police Sniper for 28 years. Today, Doug's dedication to service continues in managing and developing veteran support programs. His commitment to continuous learning is evident in his academic achievements. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Queensland, with studies at prestigious institutions like Harvard Business School and Copenhagen Business School.

  • Ryan Shaw

    Director

    Ryan is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has a strong background in corporate governance and strategy gained from over 13 years’ experience in the Australian Army, Government and Defence Industry. He has a sound working knowledge of not-for-profit entities and ability to apply that knowledge to improve organisational performance. Ryan has a strong background in developing and implementing strategic and compliance frameworks, and ensuring that they meet organisational corporate governance, vision and risk management obligations.
