The Army Sniper Association (ASA) - Australia Ltd (“we”, “our”, “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of our members and visitors to our website, www.sniper.org.au. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including Schedule 1, which sets out the Australian Privacy Principles (‘APP’), and the Essential Eight strategies to mitigate cybersecurity incidents.

We are committed to ensuring transparency in how we handle personal information and providing avenues for addressing any privacy concerns.  

Collection of Personal Information
We collect personal information that is necessary for us to provide our services and fulfil our charitable purposes. This may include, but is not limited to, your name, contact details, and any other information you provide to us. Sensitive information, such as veteran status, may be collected to verify eligibility for our services.  

We also allow for anonymous interactions where practical, such as general inquiries on our website or newsletters, unless identifying information is necessary to provide certain services.

If unsolicited personal information is received, we will assess whether it is necessary for our activities. If it is not, we will destroy or de-identify.

We retain personal information, including service records and qualifications, only for as long as necessary to fulfil our membership vetting process and ensure compliance with our legal and operational obligations. Once the Army Sniper Association directors are satisfied that your service records demonstrate your sniper qualifications and eligibility for membership, these records will be securely destroyed or de-identified in accordance with our data retention and destruction policies.

We will keep basic membership records (e.g., name, contact information, and membership status) for the duration of your membership and for a period thereafter to comply with legal or regulatory requirements. If at any time you wish to withdraw your application or cease being a member, you can contact us to request the removal of your personal information, subject to any legal obligations.

In the event of a data breach likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) per the Notifiable Data Breach scheme.

Access to and Correction of Personal Information
